born in Milan, 1908

emigrated to America in 1939

his commissions included US Department of Agriculture and the Army Corps

he had a 12 year design association with Geigy Pharmaceuticals and produced cover art for Time, Fortune and Holiday magazines

taught creative design at Cooper Union in 1947

I like his sketchy style and eye for color...that red and pink do a number on me! (in a good way).

pleased to meet you: lois mailou jones

fun facts

Lois (b. 1905-1998) was an artist during the Harlem Renaissance and was from Boston.

her childhood summers were spent in Martha's Vineyard where she began to paint, mainly watercolors.

she was recruited to join the art department at Howard University in D.C. and was professor of watercolor and design until she retired in 1977.

after marrying Haitian artist Louis Vergniaud Pierre-Noel in 1953, she moved to Haiti.

Bill and Hillary Clinton own one of her pieces.
