mixtape: holiday tidings

fellow spotify users: click here to listen ▷

I'll admit, the playlist is a little heavy on the Ella Fitzgerald and Charlie Brown songs, I couldn't help myself.
What are your favorite it-wouldn't-be-the-holidays-without-it songs?

friend: Summer of Seventy Eight

Summer of Seventy Eight is Summer Rapp's clothing line that launched earlier this year.
Her pieces are unique (interesting textures, bold prints and unexpected details) and casual-chic.
The California coast has definitely inspired her looks and the attitude is sexy and tough -- hello leather!
I love the restrained tie dyed look of the pants and her sweaters look so cozy, with an edge of course.

Jane's homemade indigo dye kits -- beautifully packaged.
the indigo dye station in her studio.
her studio is on the 10th floor, with such pretty views...so calm

afterwards we ate at The Pie Hole (mac 'n cheese pie? believe it) and took a peek into Poketo... a great little gift spot -- I finally got some washi tape to add to my crafting collection.

string art DIY

missi and brian were in NYC last week which left me some time to do a little crafting at the studio.
I had lumber left over from a shelving project, so I decided to stain a piece and make a little sign.
you need to print out what you want it to say, cut the letters out, position and tape in place.
then comes the part where I'm sure I annoyed the neighbors... start hammering your nails around the edges of the letters, making sure they stick out a bit. this was the longest part of the project for me. finally, you can start wrapping your thread in fun designs or simply around the outlines.

indigo workshop part 2

my random polka dot design and zombie blue hands. who needs gloves? | splattered
this gal was going to make silk pants out of her design! I'd wear them | our patient teacher, Niki | little drawstring bags with different designs... these turned out really fun

have you done any dyeing like this? it's fun to play around and experiment with hue and making different designs.

indigo workshop

a sunny fall afternoon at Dream Collective in LA | creations hanging out to dry | Brian showing off a piece of vintage fabric Missi decided to dye ... it looked so cool!
Missi and Brian and their indigo baby | the green part is the indigo oxidizing right before our eyes! (did you know that indigo is actually a green color? when it hits oxygen it starts to turn that deep blue color. mind. blown :)

it's hard for me to edit photos of this day because all the dyeing was so cool looking -- and I also want to introduce our teacher, Niki Livingston from Lookout & Wonderland (she was great) --- so, more tomorrow!
