fun facts:
He was named after Cy " The Cyclone" Young, a baseball player in the early 1900s
He shared a studio space with Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns
Studied with Franz Kline (among other artists) at Black Mountain College in North Carolina
Served as a cryptologist in the military
Moved to Southern Italy in his late 20s
He made sculpture too!

i love cy twombly's work! at the philadelphia museum of art there's a gallery dedicated to his Iliad series. I make sure to visit it every time i'm in the city. i love the raw expressive marks against pristine white canvas. so much tension and passionate emotion.
