Raoul Dufy

I mentioned Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) last week as influencing Paule Marrot's work and I thought I should give him a little limelight action too. After all his hard work he deserves it, right?

He was a French Fauvist painter, who (with a little encouragement from costume designer Paul Poiret) started designing textiles. Dufy also had a very successful time designing for Bianchini Ferier (a silk manufacturer).

Butterfly model for textile design

Jungle, printed cotton, 1922

La Foret, printed cotton, c.1922

Harvester, printed linen, c. 1920, manufactered by Bianchini Ferier

Poiret design (La Perse, 1911) using Dufy textile. quite the pair!
