Seydou Keita

Here is some more West African style. Seydou Keita was a self taught portrait photographer from Bamako, Mali. His portraits from the 40's - 60's are an amazing documentation of Malian style and textiles during this period.

oh wow, this is great. i just took a West African art and culture course. it was kinda painful, being a summer session slide lecture class. still i can't deny how mesmerizing the visual culture is, and your recent posts touch on some of my favorite topics! what a fun way to review! thank you for posting Mr. Keita's work. that first image is amazing.
