Louisiana and I am not talking down south

One of our favorite places we visited in Denmark was Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. It is located about 40 minutes north of Copenhagen overlooking the crystal clear sea. It is quite amazing, from the location to the sweet mid century buildings to the exhibits. While we were there they were showing "Colour in Art," which presented the story of the role and significance of color to artist and to the development of modern art. There were works represented from impressionism through the present. Unfortunately they did not allow us to take photos in this exhibition, but we bought the book. I will post some photos from it tomorrow.

Dansk Design Center

Here are some photos from our trip to the Dansk Design Center. They have exhibits and hold conferences on design. They focus on current and future design but they also have a great exhibit "Denmark by Design 1945-2010" which traces the history of Danish Design.

Kronborg Castle Tapestries

While in Denmark we made a trip up to Kronborg Castle, the setting for Shakespeare's Hamlet. It is one of the most important Renaissance castles in Northern Europe and is on the UNESCO's World Heritage Sites list. It was quite impressive indeed, especially the amazing amount of tapestries. Here are a few detail shots for some pattern inspiration.

Danish Graffiti

Thought some of this Danish Art and Graffiti had some nice color combos. It was interesting, everything was so clean and nicely designed in Denmark then there was lots of Graffiti. It was a nice contrast, making it stand out more as an art piece as opposed to vandalism, which it probably was.

Last post from the Kunst Industri Museet. These ceramics are either from Mid Century Denmark or 19th Century Japan. Can you tell the difference?

Useful Objects

Just a few useful objects on view. I wonder if they still make the glass containers? I wish I had a set of those.

Here is more from Kunst Industri Museet. The eye candy there was overwhelming and we took a trillion pictures. Here are some pretty shiny things.

Danish Fabric Chairs

One of my favorite things at the Kunst Industri Museet was not part of the exhibits, it was a fold out stool from the Textile Study Room. Used to take a load off while perusing the many drawers, these stools were cleverly hanging on the wall awaiting their use. I love the leather hanging tab and brass hook. Below are some additional fabric based chairs from their collection.

Embroideries from the Textile Study Room

It was cool to see the initial design illustration along with the actual embroidered piece for this art nouveaux era embroidery.
