The Final Frontier

Outer Space Wallpaper from the 70's
Since outer space type prints are trending right now thought we would give a shout out to the Space Age. Also, we just saw Star Trek. Quite fun. Check out the "Preview" section of our site , for a more updated version of this trend + some examples from our collection.

Here are a few vintage prints from Zandra Rhodes. This Lipstick one makes me smile.

We picked up some sweet vintage 60's Marimekko fabric at an estate sale a year or 2 ago. It has been sitting around collecting dust. With help from our friend's Matt and Krysta we all got motivated and made some frames and stretched them this past long weekend. If we had 3 day weekends every week, just imagine the things we could all get done!

"Mags" - Copyright 1971, by Ginn and Company

We found Mags at a thrift store and could not pass it up, especially since it was only 49 cents. What a bargain for such charming illustrations. Don't you wish you could live in Mags world too!

"Getting Started in Batik"

Three Color Batik

These images are from a book called "Getting Started in Batik" published in 1971. We picked this one up at an estate sale. Batik always reminds us of summer, so we thought we would post these in honor of the unofficial kick off......Memorial Day.

A Batik created with two waxings and two dyeings.

Ray Kappe's House

The Children's Room

These picture's are from the Dwell Home Tour we took last year. They are of architect Ray Kappe's house he designed and built for his family in 1967. It is truly one of the most amazing homes we have ever seen. He still lives there with his wife, the kids are all grown, but the cool thing is it has not seemed to change since it was built. The bedspreads and pillows seem original and have some really great stripe layouts and color combos. The next "Dwell on Design" LA home tours are coming up soon.....June 27th and 28th. If you are in LA and interested, book your tickets soon as they tend to sell out.

1920's Czech Printer's Sample Book

I found this book when I was scouring ebay. It is from the 1920's and the lister thinks it is a designer/printer's sample book.  It is amazing how modern the art looks. The listing is up for another 5 days if anyone is interested.

Gene Davis

Rain Dance II 1960

This stripe painting is by Gene Davis who was a member of the "Washington Color School" in the 60's. He sure knows how to paint a mean stripe.
